Once owned by William Wordsworth, the well appointed detached property boasts many period features, ample gardens, and access by private road.

Q: How do I book or make an enquiry?
A: Go to availability and bookings page and check for details. Follow the instructions to confirm your booking. If you prefer to pay by CHAPS and BACS (direct bank transfer), you can

Q: How well equipped is the property?
A: The property has everything you would expect in a family home including linen and towels. There is oil fired central heating and hot water. The windows are double glazed. All of the rooms have new furniture and furnishings. There is also a large slate paved patio area for enjoying the views.

Q: Is there a television, VCR, DVD?
A: Yes, there are two colour stereo televisions both with full Sky Satellite television packages including film and sports. Additionally, both televisions have a VHS video and DVD player and can play music CDs. There is a portable music centre in the kitchen with radio, cassette, and CD player.

Q: Can I bring my dog?
A: Yes, pets are welcome although, without prior arrangment, we can only accept one dog per visit. Please ask if you need to bring more than one dog. Please note that although the property is completely fenced in, there is a working hill farm next door so pets must be kept under close control at all times. If in doubt about your dog, please ask.

Q: What happens if I need to cancel?
A: Again, see the booking website. If you've paid in full, guests will receive a 50% refund of the total cost if they cancel at least four weeks before the start of the holiday. If you split the payment, by paying a deposit only to book, the booking deposit cannot be refunded. If the balance payment is not received at least two weeks before the holiday starts, the booking will be automatically cancelled. We strongly suggest that you take out holiday insurance to cover you for any unexpected eventuality.

Q: What do I need to bring, what is included in the rental price?
A: Most standard items are provided and included. Fresh bed linen and towels are provided. You should bring and provide your own toiletries. However, if you plan to go the beach or swim in the river or lakes, you will probably want to bring your own beach towels or similar. We do not charge any extra for heating or coal or wood for the fire (unlike many other providers). You may wish to bring washing machine powder. We would ask that you use resources such as electricity and water responsibly to reduce the cottage's impact on the environment.

Q: Is there mobile phone reception?
A: There is very limited reception in the valley. There is a fully working telephone in the cottage but we ask that you limit your calls to local or emergency calls only. If you need to use the phone for more expensive calls or more frequent calls, please let us know and we can bill you with an itemised list of your calls and costs. There is also a public phone at the bottom of the hill in the village.

Q: Is there internet/Wi-Fi
A: Yes, there is now a fast BT Broadband and Wi-Fi connection available. This was installed in 2013 after a long delay from BT.

Q: The cottage is booked, can you suggest any other cottages in the area?
A: Yes, look at Eskdale.Info for other accommodation in the area.

Q: I'd like to get groceries delivered or buy them locally. What can I do?
A: There are a range of options including Eskdale Stores who will deliver to the cottage. Tesco now delivers directly to the cottage. You can use the postcode CA19 1TG and select Gillbank Cottage for your delivery address. There are large supermarkets in Whitehaven and Barrow in Furness. See the Links page for more details.
