Meal options in Eskdale are varied and wide. As a self-catering property, the cottage is perfect for preparing your own special meals. Eskdale Stores sell a variety of foods including local organic options.

Gillbank Cottage offers a fully equipped kitchen with range cooker, microwave, toaster, kettle, cafetierre, pots, pans, and all the kitchen implements you would expect. A gas barbecue is also available for use outdoors.

Eating Out
There are many dining options in the village of Boot and further afield.

In Boot, there are three pubs, all of which serve food at major meal times. The Burnmoor Inn along the small main road has both formal dining and traditional pub fayre to satisfy a hungry appetite. The Poachers Bar at Brook House also offers food and snacks. The Woolpack up the valley towards Hard Knott serves a variety of hearty meals.

The small railway at Dalegarth Station offers food in its cafe along with usual teas, coffees, sweets, and ice creams to take away. Similarly, the post office and shop in Boot sells sandwiches and local Lakeland foods plus the usual convenience snacks.

Fine Dining
Further afield (a car drive away) are several fine restaurants. Whitehaven is well-equipped with restaurants, and a trip to Ambleside or Keswick will reward the traveller with a wide selection of French, Italian, Chinese, and traditional British foods. Of particular note are the Michelin star restaurants in the area:

  • Sharrow Bay Hotel
    Lake Ullswater (01768 486 301) Michelin-starred celeb retreat with views of Lake Ullswater. Puddings come highly recommended. This is where sticky toffee pudding was invented.
  • L'Enclume
